マスコミとは大衆伝達であり、媒体あるいはマスメディア（新聞、テレビ、インターネット、ラジオ）を通し大衆に情報を伝達することだ。メディアには様々な基本概念が存在する。一番印象に残った基本概念は「メディアには商業的目的がある」、「メディアは社会的、政治的意味をもつ」そして「メディアは現実を構成している」だ。メディアには色々な目的、そして意味を持ち、すべての情報を鵜呑みしてはいけないことを改めて感じた。特に報道メディアでは報道各社が独自の価値観そして視点から事実を伝えている。また、背景にはスポンサーなど商業的意味な意味を持っている。例えばNHKは政治的意味をもっている。政府のテレビ局のため政府を悪く言わない。また娯楽、そして視聴率が目的の報道番組は現実の誇張など面白おかしい批判などを含む。こういったメディアタイプの背景を理解せねば情報を鵜呑みしてしまう。目的にあったメディアを探すことの重要性に気づかされた。またコマーシャルなどは商業的な目的があるため構成された現実がほとんどだ。パンテーンのコマーシャルで髪が美しい女性が現れるが、パンテーンを使ってそういった髪になるとは限らない。やはり現実が構成されているのだ。メディアにはたくさんの危険性があるが、メディアは私の生活において欠かせない存在である、そしてすべて忠実な情報が伝達されていたらつまらなくなってしまう。私自身が気をつけてメディアの背景、目的を理解し、目的に合ったメディアタイプを選ばないといけないことに気づいた。
